Hapag ng Karpentero: Food for the Body & Soul
There's a new restaurant at Ayala Malls Serin. Hapag ng Karpentero serves Filipino dishes and is owned by a priest. Interesting, right? I'll be sharing with you the things I learned from them and why they are different from other restaurants.
Location
Hapag ng Karpentero, 1st Floor, Ayala Malls Serin, Tagaytay City, Cavite
It is always a nice experience when you learn so much from a restaurant or brand especially its origin and how they built it. Most businesses did not start big and the pandemic is a big factor for the past three years.
BACKSTORY
The owner of this restaurant is a viral priest who found vlogging as a way to raise funds during the pandemic to help a lot of people from the province where he was assigned. He became successful with it and started a small and simple restaurant where it was named Hapag ni San Jose, the patron saint of their Parish Church, with plans of donating more to the churches.
Did you know that HAPAG has an acronym? It means Handog, Pasasalamat, at Gawin. The restaurant has expanded to different places now but the advocacy remains. It even became deeper as they bring this to the malls so they can touch (spiritually) more people, and not just Catholics.
MENU AND PRICE RANGE
The dish names on their menu are so witty! The price range is mid-range since it's on the mall price and the serving size is 1-2 pax.
The place is spacious and can accommodate quite a lot of customers. The restaurant theme is modern, something light and refreshing.
WISHING WALL
They have this "Wishing Wall" which is inspired by Casa de Giulietta or the movie Letters to Juliet. You can write your prayer intentions and the priest who owns this will pray for your letters by the end of the day or week.
FOOD
They serve Filipino food and their specialty is the Chicken Inasal.
CALAMARITES
LUMPONG SHANGHAI
BULALO
MANOK NI SAN PEDRO (Chicken Inasal)
SINTURON NI HUDAS
VERDICT
A restaurant for a cause is really a great discovery. I appreciate their advocacy in helping in their own way. I also find the Wishing Wall their staple because it's the first time I heard of it here in the Philippines. Their food is interesting as I don't think they use too many msg. I liked their Lumpong Shanghai! Their dip/sauce for it was great! Based on their price, I think it's worth it. It's like lutong bahay. They also give twists on their own dishes and their best point are their sauces/dips,
They also have a branch at Club Balai Isabel, Talisay, Batangas, and more soon-to-open branches!
